Day THIRTY---Last day :(

BOOK:

Wolves, Boys and Other Things That Might Kill Me by Kristen Chandler

KJ Carson lives an outdoor lover's dream. The only daughter of a fishing and wildlife guide, KJ can hold her own on the water or in the mountains near her hometown outside Yellowstone National Park. But when she meets the shaggy-haired, intensely appealing Virgil, KJ loses all self-possession. And she's not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing that they're assigned to work together on a school newspaper article about the famous wolves of Yellowstone. As KJ spends time with Virgil, she also spends more time getting to know a part of her world that she always took for granted . . . and she begins to see herself and her town in a whole new light.

This book is awesome! And in case you were wondering, no there are no sparkling vampires and the wolves are just wolves. The story is amazing, you will love it!  Enter, Enter, Enter. You'll be sorry to miss out on this one  :)

Day TWENTY NINE

BOOK:

Wings by Aprilynne Pike
Laurel was mesmerized, staring at the pale things with wide eyes. They were terrifyingly beautiful—too beautiful for words.
Laurel turned to the mirror again, her eyes on the hovering petals that floated beside her head. They looked almost like wings.
In this extraordinary tale of magic and intrigue, romance and danger, everything you thought you knew about faeries will be changed forever.

This is the first book in a four book series. The second is Spells, and the third, Illusions, are all out. The final book(the name is not yet available) will be out next April.
I love these books. They are fun and well written. You'll love them too.

So. . .
you know the drill, Follow, Comment, Check back often.  :)

Day TWENTY SEVEN

BOOK:

The Red Umbrella by Christina Diaz Gonzalez

The Red Umbrella is the moving tale of a 14-year-old girl's journey from Cuba to America as part of Operation Pedro Pan—an organized exodus of more than 14,000 unaccompanied children, whose parents sent them away to escape Fidel Castro's revolution.

In 1961, two years after the Communist revolution, Lucía Álvarez still leads a carefree life, dreaming of parties and her first crush. But when the soldiers come to her sleepy Cuban town, everything begins to change. Freedoms are stripped away. Neighbors disappear. Her friends feel like strangers. And her family is being watched.

As the revolution's impact becomes more oppressive, Lucía's parents make the heart-wrenching decision to send her and her little brother to the United States—on their own.

Suddenly plunked down in Nebraska with well-meaning strangers, Lucía struggles to adapt to a new country, a new language, a new way of life. But what of her old life? Will she ever see her home or her parents again? And if she does, will she still be the same girl?

The Red Umbrella is a moving story of country, culture, family, and the true meaning of home.

Day TWENTY ONE!

BOOK:
I Am Not Joey Pigza by Jack Gantos
Just when Joey Pigza's wired world finally seems to be under control, his good-for-nothing dad pops back into his life. This time, though, Carter Pigza is a new man - literally. After a lucky lotto win, Carter Pigza has a crazy new outlook on life, and he's even changed his name to Charles Heinz. He thinks Joey and his mom should become new people, too. Soon Joey finds himself bombarded with changes: a new name, a new home, and a new family business - running the beat-up Beehive Diner. He knows he should forgive his dad as his mom wants him to, and get with the new family program. But Joey is afraid that in changing names and going with the flow he will lose sight of who he really is.
In this rocket-paced new chapter in Joey Pigza's life, a favorite hero discovers what identity and forgiveness really mean, and how to cook a delicious turkey burger.

Friday Feature

So I'm going to do a little something new. Every Friday I'm going to feature a song I like, a band that's good or a video that is just plain awesome.

So for the first video I thought I would share a band that's new to me, The Band Perry. They are a trio from Alabama and they are siblings  :)  They sing country and also get a little play on the top 40 stations. They recently won AMC's Top New Artist. I love a pure sounding female lead so this band is already a favorite of mine. Their current #1 hit is If I Die Young, Check it out!

Here is the YouTube link for the video 'If I Die Young': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NJqUN9TClM

More pictures. . .

 On a totally random note....
We are currently in the process of determining what to do with our darling daughter's rooms. Should they be all together? How would that go? (there are three) So I thought I would look around and see how other's have done it. Here is a sampling of my favorite options:

This bunk set looks fun, but a permanent option
This one looks fun but the decor could get irritating after a while.
              perhaps a bit unsafe?

cute. . .
I love the pics over the beds as well as the quote.
What has worked for you?
Having their own rooms? Sharing? Bunks?
HELP!!  :)

Day NINE!

Book:

S is for Scientists by Larry Verstraete Illustrated by David Geister.

I have read this one. . .it's a picture book. And my kids love it! There is a letter of the alphabet for things scientists do. Example: H is for Hypothesize. Then there is a loner couple of paragraphs describing an instance that a scientist used that to further his or her scientific career. So for H, the example talks about how Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis hypothesized about the spread of disease in his hospital in Vienna.

Very interesting. Read it with little ones using the ABC part or older kiddos with the background information. Cool book indeed! So enter and enjoy it yourself.

Day SEVEN

BOOK:

The Maze Runner by James Dashner

I haven't read this one either( I SWEAR I read ...lots!) so here is the back cover blurb:

When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his first name. He has no recollection of his parents, his home, or how he got where he is. His memory is empty.
But he's not alone. When the lift's doors open, Thomas finds himself surrounded by kids who welcome him to the Glade, a large expanse enclosed by stone walls.
Just like Thomas, the Gladers don't know why or how they got to the Glade. All they know is that every morning, for as long as anyone can remember, the stone doors to the maze that surrounds them have opened. Every night, for just as long, they've closed tight. Every thirty days a new boy is delivered in the lift. And no one wants to be stuck in the Maze after dark.
The Gladers were expecting Thomas's arrival. But the next day, a girl is sent up-- the first girl ever to arrive in the Glade. And more surprising yet is the message she delivers. The Gladers have always been convinced that if they can solve the maze that surrounds the Glade, the might find their way home. . .wherever that may be. But it's looking more and more as if the Maze is unsolvable.
And something about the girl's arrival is starting to make Thomas feel different. Something is telling him that he just might have some answers-- if he can only find a way to retrieve the dark secrets locked within his own mind.

Day FIVE!

Ok, so I thought it was the fourth this morning and then the sixth this afternoon and I'm like: 'oh, i don't have to post on even days any more.' DUH! And what makes it worse: today (the 5th) is my darling daughter's First Birthday!! Yes, Yes, bad mom right here. I'm hanging my head in shame.

So I'm VERY sorry about the HUGE delay in posting today's book to win, so here it is:

Book:

The Forgotten Locket by Lisa Mangum
As this is a fairly new book and I haven't had a chance to read it yet here is the blurb:
The future is uncertain. The battle to control the past has begun. The final book in the riveting Hourglass Door trilogy begins when Abby steps through the black door, and she doesn't dare look back. Though it means leaving Dante—wounded, bleeding, and possibly blind—she knows it is the only way to save her family and stop Zo from manipulating the river of time and throwing the future into chaos. In the end, Abby must face a final confrontation that will take her to the very origins of the hourglass door.
FYI: This is book three of the trilogy. The other two are AMAZING and I totally love them. If you haven't read this series yet definitely put it on your list.  ENTER, Enter, enter. You will thank me later.   :)  Oh, and did I mention it is signed? Yup. it is.

Also enter on Canda's blog at candamortensen.blogspot.com tomorrow.

And yeah, I made it up to baby girl. She had a lovely splashy fun time in the sprinklers and we are having lots of super festive family fun tomorrow night.  :)

Day FOUR!

Book:

Girls in Trucks by Katie Crouch

I haven't read this book either so here is the (rather long) blurb from the back cover:
Never chase men or buses. Don't let yourself be seen in a truck in town. There are simple rules passed down through generations of Camellias, one of the oldest debutant societies in Charleston. Sarah Walters is a member of this antiquated club--whether she likes it or not. The society is a privilege one is born to, and it offers rules of etiquette meant to prepare a girl for a charmed life with an appropriate husband. The only problem is, Sarah has a tendency to make life choices that are anything but polite. With humor and keen observation, Katie Crouch takes Sarah from sweaty-palmed eighth grader at Cotillion dancing lessons  to a slightly numb thirty-five-year-old living in New York City. It takes a strange turn of events to make Sarah realize that as much as she tries ti deny it, where she comes from will always affect where she ends up.

I personally have not read this book so here is what the cover blurb says:
September is a girl who longs for adventure. When she is invited to Fairlyand by a Green Wind and a Leopard, well, of course she accepts. (Mightn't you?) But Fairland is in turmoil, and it will take one twelve-year-old girl, a book-loving dragon, and a strange and almost human boy named Saturday to vanquish an evil Marquess and restore order.
